New look beard style. Finding the best beard style for your face shape, Jean Coutu

ROUND FACE

Objective

Let’s be clear: having a round face does not necessarily mean you’re overweight. Regardless of your size, you can have this morphology. The advantage is that most beard styles go great with this face shape. But if you want to downplay the roundness, certain styles work best. How to select beard style.

The ideal style

To slim down and lengthen the face, opt for a beard that is relatively long at the chin and shorter on the cheeks. Trim the hair closely on the sides while leaving it longer along the jawbone, and longest at the chin. As for your sideburns, they should end in a tip and curve just under your ear lobe. For your hair, opt for a style with lots of volume, since really short hair will enhance the face’s round features.

To avoid

SQUARE FACE

Objective

Contrary to a round face, where you want to accentuate the angles, for a square face you want to soften them.

The ideal style

To conceal your features and add roundness to the face, wear a long beard with a moustache or goatee. Make sure to cut the hairs fairly short so that the beard doesn’t look too bushy, which can accentuate your square profile. You can also maintain a 3- or 10-day beard, so long as you keep it looking rounded.

To avoid

Beards that are big and thick, or a shaggy look.

TRIANGULAR FACE

Objective

Triangular faces have a relatively pointed chin that elongates the face. Therefore, you want a beard that lessens the appearance of length.

The ideal style

To balance out your face’s shape, wear thick whiskers along the sides of the face, but not at the chin. Opt for thick sideburns, with a shaved chin. Sideburns are essential allies for triangular faces. To make the jaw look wider, we suggest keeping them long and thick. If you like, you can even let your sideburns grow out midway along your jawline.

Popular facial hair styles 2016

To avoid

Long beards that accentuate the face’s shape.

OVAL FACE

Objective

Anything—or almost anything—goes with this face shape. When trimming your beard, try to simply balance out the bottom of the face.

The ideal style

Oval-shaped faces look great with a moustache, a five o’clock shadow, a goatee, a long beard, a full beard, etc.

To avoid

A goatee that is too long, and could overstretch the face’s profile.

RECTANGULAR

L’objectif:

As rectangular faces are wide at the forehead and chin, you want to shorten and round in the face while softening the angles.

The ideal style

Break up the evenness with triangular shapes. Opt for a shorter beard, without a goatee, if you like, but with thick sideburns, cheeks and a moustache.

Best beard models

To avoid

Wearing just a moustache, which will accentuate the rectangular shape.

DIAMOND-SHAPED FACE

Objective

Between oval and square, this face shape features prominent cheekbones, an imposing jawline and a finer, longer chin. You want to therefore square your features as much as possible.

Le style idéal:

Opt for a thick beard that covers the chin or for long sideburns that even out the face and soften its features.

To avoid

Moustaches and goatees are discouraged, since they highlight the pointed appearance of the chin.

HEART-SHAPED FACE

Objective

Try to even out the shape of the face, to compensate for the thinner jaw and wider brow.

The ideal style

Opt for a full beard with a somewhat scruffy look to give the impression of a wider jaw. And to make your chin look less pointed, let your beard grow on the neck, to just above the Adam’s apple.

Chin facial hair styles

To avoid

Sideburns that are too thick. Keep them short to ensure they don’t widen the face, which is already broad in this area.
