By now, I think it is safe to say that the facial hair trend for men is one that is here to stay. It goes without saying, however, that when it comes to facial hair, it is not a one-size-fits-all proposition. Choosing the right style and length of beard for your face shape is crucial to complement your features and rock this trend. Beard styles for a round face.
Before choosing the beard style that works best for you, it is important to determine your face shape. A style that looks great on a guy with an oblong face (that is, long and narrow), won’,t complement a square face in quite the same way. So, grab a flexible tape measure and follow the guidelines below.
First, take the following measurements (in inches or centimeters):
Forehead: Pull the tape measure from the peak of one eyebrow arch to the peak of the opposite arch. Record that number.
Cheekbones: Measure across your upper cheeks, starting and ending at the sharp bump below the outer corner of each eye.
Jawline: Measure from the tip of your chin to the point below your ear where your jaw angles upward. Multiply that number by two.
Face length: Measure from the center of your hairline to the tip of your chin.
Write down these four measurements. Note which is the largest, and use the information below to determine your face shape.
Beard styles on round face
Round: Cheekbones and face length have a similar measurement. They are larger than forehead and jawline, which also have a similar measurement. The angle of the jaw is soft.
Square: All measurements are fairly similar. The angle of the jaw is sharp.
Oblong: Face length is largest. Forehead, cheekbones, and jawline are similar in size.
Heart: Face length is largest. Then, in descending order: cheekbones, forehead, and smallest is jawline. The chin is pointed.
Oval: Face length is larger than the width of the cheekbones, and forehead is larger than the jawline. The angle of the jaw is rounded.
Now that you have identified your facial shape, choosing the best style of facial hair will be a no-brainer.
Facial Hair Advice for Round Shaped Faces
Go for a defined beard in order to create angles, also, opting for longer, thinner sideburns will prevent your cheeks from looking fuller. A goatee is another style that helps to make the face appear longer and slimmer.
Facial Hair Advice for Square Shaped Faces
Your choice of beard is dependent on how you want it to work alongside your strong jawline. If you want to enhance it – a goatee or defined beard will help to emphasize the structure within the lower half of your face. Otherwise, if you want to create some softness in your face, then harsh lines in the beard and moustache should be avoided and instead, go for a light stubble.
Facial Hair Advice for Oblong Shaped Faces
Go for a beard that ends a little wider, almost like a square, to ensure that there is symmetry with the rest of your hair.
Facial Hair Advice for Heart Shaped Faces
If you want to define your jawline try going for a square beard, which will work against your soft face shape and give you a more defined look.
